Robert W. Edler, M.D., J.D., FCLM, Of Counsel - Legal Medicine
Dr. Edler received his Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.), cum laude, from Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis in 1998. He is a member of the Indiana Bar as well as the Florida Bar (licensed as an attorney in both Indiana and Florida). He is admitted as an attorney and counselor of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. Dr. Edler is a Fellow of the American College of Legal Medicine (FCLM).
Dr. Edler’s areas of legal practice include medical malpractice/negligence or preventable medical errors, medication errors, medication prescription or pharmaceutical errors, serious personal injury, wrongful death and products liability involving medical/surgical devices or pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Edler has over 30 years of experience as a physician. He graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana in January, 1974 (M.D.) following an A.B. undergraduate degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana in 1971. He has had an active Indiana Physician’s License since 1974.
Following medical school, Dr. Edler completed a Rotating Internship. Early in his medical career he worked as an emergency room physician and also worked in a multi-specialty medical clinic. He completed a Residency in Ophthalmology at Indiana University Hospitals & Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is a Fellow, American Academy of Ophthalmology, and is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Edler had a successful private medical/surgical practice in Indiana for many years and was privileged to have cared for or served thousands of patients. He retired from active patient care due to a spinal disability
Dr. Edler was the victim of a serious preventable medical error during a surgical procedure. Additionally, Dr. Edler has suffered serious complications that were risks from medical/surgical procedures. This gives him a unique perspective concerning medical malpractice. Dr. Edler not only understands medical malpractice from the perspective of an attorney and from the perspective of an experienced physician but he also understands medical malpractice from the perspective of a patient.
